TEAM OSCAR
The team leader of OSCAR is Tim Vangerven, who is currently doing a PhD in material physics on plastic (organic) solar cells, studying the effect of material purity on solar cell performance. Plastic is fantastic!
Ilaria Cardinaletti is the responsible for the scientific strategy and is doing a PhD in material physics on organic and hybrid solar cells. She is specialized in studying materials at the nanoscale with extremely cool imaging techniques such as atomic force microscopy (more information on the measurement principle here).
Rob Cornelissen is the responsible for the mechanical design and is doing a PhD in physics on photosynthesis! But don't be fooled as he is a true master in electromechanical engineering. Besides designing and manufacturing, he really enjoys being outside in the nature.
Steven Nagels joined the team after our PDR week and is responsible for the electronics design. He is doing a PhD in materials engineering and has a master degree in electronic engineering. More over he is very experienced in printing electronic circuits.
Jaroslav "Jarda" Hruby is the software responsible and doing a PhD in physics on diamond magnetometers. Within the framework of OSCAR, he is developing a very sensitive and compact prototype diamond magnetometer which could also be potentially interesting to measure the activity from the human brain!
Jelle Vodnik is giving support to the development of the magnetometer module, including the microwave circuitry and other electronics. He is studying physics and on his way to reach his bachelors degree! He will earn official academic credits for his work in OSCAR with his bachelor thesis.
Verification of requirements to meet the mission goals is extremely important in (space) projects. Dieter Schreurs is responsible for the verification testing and will assure that failure of components is checked well before flight time. After the flight he will investigate the devices into more detail in the lab to study the influence of the flight conditions on the devices. Dieter is doing a PhD in physics, related to the stability of (fantastic!) plastic solar cells. (And we think he likes hot-dogs!)
Koen Wouters (left) and Miguel-Angel Beynaerts (right) are physics students (2nd bachelor). They will earn credits for the course "Experimental techniques". They will be co-developing and performing temperature and pressure tests for the OSCAR experiment. as the environment in the stratosphere is outside the standard operating range of many electronic and mechanical components.
This is the current CORE TEAM of experiment OSCAR!
